Crabgrass Prevention
Crabgrass is a Pre-emergent weed that grows and causes havoc in your lawn.  It is a germinating seed that grows, and produces more seeds throughout the season.  This weed thrives under the hot sun, and spreads like wild fire.  You will begin to notice a problem when the hot sun of late June & July, as well as in dry conditions, take hold.  If crabgrass is not treated in early Spring it will run wild, and choke out your lawn especially along the edges and around walkways.

Did you know, that Pre-emergent means prior to sprouting and Post-emergent means after germination?   Wolf Hill has products to prevent both, Pre & Post emergent situations.

Late March and April is the best time to apply "Pre-emergent Weed Control".  To be most effective it must be put down about the time the Forsythia blooms (which is when the soil hits 55 - 60 degrees).  This is the soil temperature when Crabgrass begins to germinate.  Pre-emergent herbicides must be applied prior to germination for effective results.  Too late of an application will miss the window for pre-emergent herbicides to become effective.  Before applying any Pre-emergent, spring raking, and clean-up should be done prior to remove winter debris and seeds.  If you miss the window of opportunity, before the Forsythia blooms, do not worry, Wolf Hill carries products for "Post-emergent Weed Control" as well.

We carry two types of herbicides; Organic, and conventional.

Corn Gluten is a natural and organic by product of the milling process from corn.  It is very effective for lawns and gardens as a plant food and weed suppressor.  Corn Gluten is a non-toxic alternative to traditional, chemical-based weed herbicides, and also acts as a high nitrogen fertilizer, giving your lawn a good boost of green to start the season off right.  Corn Gluten CANNOT be applied at the same time you are putting down grass seed.  It will prevent the grass seed from germinating.
